Before real estate captured my imagination, I was a writer for many publications in several states and countries. I once did a column exclusively about books. In that capacity, I worked directly with celebrity authors (and their agents) internationally.
Reading widely enhances my performance as a real estate agent. How could it not? Many aspects of business, finance, architecture, and psychology converge in the purchase of real estate! Here is a peek into my ever evolving library. What are you reading? We have much to discuss!
Don't assume someone has to lose in a negotiation. A good negotiator will often make everyone equally unhappy. However, the best negotiators are problem solvers who figure out what both sides can live with. I've studied negotiation formally and informally since I was an undergraduate. I created my own course of study on it, actually, for an independant study. INKED is a bestseller in Hudson News at Penn Station. I took a chance and wasn't sorry. You--and any archfiends in your life--will love this compendium of deal making and negotiation in the annals of art, music politics, and literature.

I am fascinated by employee ownership and employee owned trusts. EXP is an ESOP. If you want to nerd out with me on employee ownership structures, call me right now!
Have you ever fell in love with a piece of furniture, but you were unsure how to care for it? Do you have heirlooms of the future you are tempted to discard? Stop! Here is the answer! Borrow my well used copy!
Your ZIP Code is the most important decision you will ever make for yourself and your children. Don't delay in choosing the right one!
Diets, dieting, weight and body image. Oh, we can pretend we are indifferent, but we are not. It isn't any worse now than it was when my great-great Aunt Ruth (born in 1899) pinched my piano teacher and warned her that she was getting "awful big."
She weighed 118 all of her life.
It's getting better, actually...
My collection of Russian icons comfort me because I have not finished Brothers Karamazov. But I will this year. Here is a link to the best translations of Doestoevsky.
James Baldwin left to find a place where his fine mind could be free to think outside of the struggle he faced as an African-American in the tumultuous 1960s. In France he crafted the prose that explored his self-imposed exile. Talent without borders.
I haven't stayed up until 4:00 a.m. reading a book since Sidney Sheldon released Rage of Angels in 1980 and I was barely a teen. My new pop lit crush is Laurence Leamer. He brings strategic intelligence to bear on many of my pop culture curiosities. The next release is Warhol's Muses. And the pages turn...
Here are my faves:
Hitchcock's Blondes,
Capote's Women,
The Price of Justice,
Madness Under the Royal Palms,
The Kennedy Men,
The Kennedy Women,
The Sons of Camelot,
King of the Night: The Life of Johnny Carson.
Here is an interview with the author.
You often see Laurence Leamer (and hear his patrician accent) in documentary cameos about Truman Capote and the Kennedy family. Capote and the Swans is reborn as a limited series on FX in Ryan Murphy's Capote vs The Swans.
Ben Widdicombe is a long time friend whose Gatecrasher was a walk through a world I knew well (and he knew better) while living in New York City. He is the former editor of Avenue Magazine and a New York Times columnist. If you nose around Amazon, you will find my five-star review.
To enjoy Ben's writing, start with Gatecrasher.
From a real estate titan, writer or biographer, I require the inside juice. Let's start with Morgenthau: Power, Privilege, and the Rise of an American Dynasty--Or How to Amass a Fortune in Manhattan Real Estate by Andrew Meier.
I was reading about Pamela Digby Churchill Haywood Harriman's legendary life 20 years ago in Christopher Ogden's Life of the Party.
Finally a revisionist historical biography of a woman who was Winston Churchill's confidante and emissary as well as an ambassador to France. In between (and during) those roles, she had a rather famous good time. By the end of her life in 1997, she sat in the firmament of American history and now she is being recognized for that. Read here.
Kindly consider recommending a book to me or letting me know what you think! Unsurprisingly, I lead a local book club.
